We live in a community of cottages designed, I’ve been told, after Seaside in Florida. All have at least a front porch, and many, as you’ve seen in my many posts, screened porches as well.
Decorated at Christmas, they’re as cute as can be. With the recent snow, I took a drive on a particularly beautiful, bright day, and when I came home in the evening, when they take a whole different look, I took another drive, enjoying the lights. I of course took some pictures then too.
So, here’s our community tour~
This one is across the street from us! After the a recent snowfall I stepped out on our front porch and took a few pictures…
…and how about that sky?! Those of you who visit often know I LOVE summer and always mourn its end, but God’s paintbrush always reminds me that every season has its beauty and gifts.
Aren’t the snowflakes on the door pretty—and something unique? And her beautiful bows are red-and-white checked, so they look pink from a distance.
Moving Driving along~
I’ve done these bows for years; they always look like cardinals in the tree. This year I added the red ornaments (Dollar Tree bargains!!).
One lone ornament…Two of our chickadees were going to help me decorate the bush with the ribbons and ornaments, but it started to snow, so as we headed inside, Middle Chickadee put his ornament on the tree. Yes, it’s staying there :). Love that sweet little touch. And are you wondering about the shovel? We got it on our trip to Richmond, Indiana (you can see that post here) in the fall.
I fell in love with the wood handle on the shovel as soon as I saw it in an antique shop. Imagine the hands that worked with this shovel! It’s not lightly used—it was used, and used often. I was happy to give it a home. Do you ever wonder what the original, long-ago owners of old things we buy at antique shops would say about our buying their belongings? Or the history behind the article? Would they be happy that their belongings are still valued and given a happy home? (More on the details of our front porch soon, I hope.)
Some of the cottages have two porches~
How’s this for cute?! Wait till you see it lit at night!
And one of our community gazebos.
And now…some nighttime shots~
I love the reflection in the window, and of course, the Adirondacks. I wonder if Lynn, the owner of this home, has taken a picture of this darling, beachy vignette, or am I the only crazy person trying to capture life as we roll along?
Oh, how I love snow on illuminated bushes! They look like cupcakes to me!
Our cottage (more to come at a later post)…
This is our community barn, at our community garden.
And last but not least, our light post. I LOVE light posts, especially in the snow, and lit~
I hope you enjoyed this tour, and that it provided a bit of respite if you’ve been busy with holiday preparations.
Wishing you a very merry Christmas!!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I’m thrilled to know you stopped by, and I’ll always visit back and comment too. Hi! Just visiting from The Charm of Home party. You are blessed to live on such a lovely street. I love that type of home. So pretty with the snow and decorations. Love your lamppost!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Diane
Loved your cottage neighborhood tour, and all those beautiful homes and snow pictures.......such fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso really thought the snowflakes on the door were adorable and showed up so well, and loved all the garland draped porch railings, so pretty............every one of them. and yes, the snow covered bushes illuminated do look like cupcakes.. lol
Hope you have a Lovely Christmas,
Blessings for a wonderful Christmas and New year,
Nellie
Very pretty, Zuni! A lot of your neighbors have done a nice job on their decorating. Your decorations look so festive. Love that single ornament on the tree. I love seeing all the decorations lit up at night. Where we used to live {and when our kids were young} we took a night and drove around our neighborhood looking at all the decorations lit up.
ReplyDeleteYes, Zuni, God does have a special paintbrush for every season, and Winter certainly has its charm in your neighborhood! And the ornament left by a single chickadee? Definitely charming! :-) Of course you left it right there for us to enjoy! What a great idea to show us the day/night views of the homes. They all look very inviting and festive. I hope you and yours are having a wonderful Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteZuni - I really enjoyed the tour. Your neighborhood looks lovely and your house is beautiful. I fell in love with that shovel and the way that you decorated it. Sorry that I am a little late in commenting - I had to go out of town to a dance program for you-know-who!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the homes, but I think your neighbor across the street has the style home that most captures my attention. It's beautiful! I have always wanted a big porch and gabled windows like that. Probably won't happen in my lifetime as we are married to this house 'til death us do part! ;-) Looking at the wreaths in the upper windows got me to thinking, though. We now have those tilt-in windows, so maybe I can easily hang wreaths on the outside!!! Not going to try it this year, but will practice when the weather is more tolerable for next year! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your decorated shovel! I will probably be taking a cue from that for next year's decor. Or maybe I'll just add something like that this year. I know my Mom has a garage full of my Dad's old tools and stuff that she's chomping at the bit to get rid of. Those old shovels will come out each Christmas and remind me of him. I'll have to snag a couple of rakes, too, for summer decorating! Thanks for the great idea! Love that wagon on one of your neighbors' porch, too!!! And that community gazebo and barn!!!!!!!
Lovely neighborhood, Zuni! Thanks for sharing with us! I'll definitely be pinning happily away!
OKAY!!!!! I think I want to live in your neighborhood!! SO very CUTE and Festive. Thank you so much for sharing it with us at our Christmas Extravaganza Party!! Pinning :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt is all so beautiful. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Lovely tour, Zuni! It would never have occurred to me to decorate our shovel! Very clever! It does look pretty out there right now, but I'm like you, I prefer summers! It's not even officially winter and I'm already pining for green grass and blue skies! Need a trip to Florida, I think.
ReplyDeleteZuni, You live in a beautiful neighborhood and it does remind me of the Seaside community. I love the decorated porches and yours is pretty with the trees and vintage shovel. Thanks for linking to the Open House party and have a very Merry Christmas.

Sherry
How I needed to be taken away this morning to see the beautiful lights, stillness and beauty of the Christmas season. It was all so lovely. What peace there is
ReplyDeleteA quick hello to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. One full of love, health and lots of happiness....And a prosperous New Year.
