If you've visited before you probably know that my parents, 5-year-old little brother, and I left escaped from Cuba in 1961 (to say that we "left" is a huge and inaccurate understatement). And we came to this grand country, that welcomed us with open arms, seeking only one thing:
FREEDOM
And FREEDOM we found:FREEDOM to work
FREEDOM to live where we wanted
FREEDOM to buy the food we wanted with no rationing
FREEDOM to go to the school of our parents' choice
FREEDOM to worship where we wanted
Above all else, we found...FREEDOM from FEAR.
So this Memorial Day, I will take the time to thank the men and women who paid the ultimate price for the
FREEDOM
that they so valiantly gave us.To see a Memorial Day post I did on our business website please visit us at:

Hi Zuni,
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely post, and great to see people who are thankful that they were able to come to this country out of a bad situation,
seems sometimes they have more gratitude for our nation sometimes than those who have lived and enjoyed these freedoms
there whole life...........they don't even understand how we are losing so many of our freedoms day by day. But thank God
for all the men and women who have put their life on the line for all of us.............
Blessings,
Nellie
What a poignant picture with the little girl so moved by what's going on!
ReplyDeleteFreedom is something many people take for granted in this country. That's really too bad, because it could be taken away at any given moment. I am so grateful for being able to enjoy the freedoms afforded us in this country. There was, of course, a time when I would not have been able to, and that's what makes it that much more near and dear to my heart and consciousness. I weep for the future of America if these young people don't pull their pants up, spit the "grills" out of their mouths, learn and practice the English language as it was meant to be spoken, and stop making excuses, hobbling along on the backs of our tragic past.
Beautiful post, Zuni. Have a relaxing and reflective weekend.
Just getting around to seeing this post. Enjoyed it. Hope you are having a great day! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit here and I love your story of escaping and then embracing freedom here. We need to stay vigilant so we keep those freedoms.
ReplyDeleteIt warms my heart to read of you and your family's appreciation for the freedoms you found here in America...freedom that so many take for granted.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've visited Zuni, but I hope you're well!
Zuni, your baby doll is getting so big! What a wonderful photo!
