Fall Wreaths

My "wreaths," for a variety of reasons, aren't wreaths in the traditional sense...they aren't "firm," if you know what I mean.  They are made from garlands, which has worked great for me.

Our storm door doesn't allow enough clearance for a traditional ("firm") wreath, so I've used a beautiful garland that is less bulky instead.  Another bonus is that the garlands out there allow for endless possibilities for already-decorated "wreaths"!

I added the mesh ribbon for additional decoration and to hang it.

I also needed something next to the door, to add additional interest, but again, a traditional wreath wouldn't work, so I created one of sorts with another garland around the ligth fixture.  It's worked well, because I can shape it to create a loose effect rather than the structured circle.

This "wreath" looks very pretty at night when the light is on...the leaves seem to glow, so they add interest
in the daytime and night too.

In the backyard, I created another "wreath" to lay across our old hand plow, and added a pretty sunflower/berry "pick.  Easy as pie!
(Well, easier than pie; pies aren't easy for me. :)  )

What decorating solutions have you come up with when you're dealing with storm doors?

My mom has the same problem as you and has resorted to using garlands with the storm door and around her sconces as well. Like yours, though, they are really pretty and work so well! And I really like your old plow and the garland draped in it! Perfect for the season! :)

Thanks for coming by to visit! Adding you to my blog roster!

  4. Hi, Zuni! What a great idea!!! I never thought of making the wreath more pliable to fit behind the doggone door! Genius! The one I'm using this year fits behind the storm door just fine, but most don't. Thanks for the idea!

  8. Hi, thanks for stopping by Ms. Redo to see my childhood treasures. Love what you're doing with your blog, isn't blogging fun?! I also have a storm door, what I do is use a "suction" hook (from Michael's or any craft store) to hang on the storm door, then the wreath hangs outside without being mashed. Hope that helps!

  13. I love the look of a non-solid wreath, and I really like the added touch of the net ribbon!! I like the airyness (is that even a word?) and today's swags are so incredibly beautiful, the sky is the limit. Unfortunately, my storm door has scroll work on it and it's right at the level where a wreath would go. So, I have to put my wreaths on the outside. But, even in Colorado weather, it has never been a problem. Thank you for visiting my blog and I am now a follower of yours!
