I Admit It…I’ve Fallen in Love

I love houses…YOU love houses.  I know all about you, because you wouldn’t be here visiting Chickadee Home Nest if you didn’t.  So I’m admitting that I have fallen in love…AGAIN.

You see, we visited my sweet 91-year-old MIL in Orange County, and while there my husband and I took a few quick trips to our favorite haunts—Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar, and Newport Beach.  The shops, the restaurants, the views…what views!  Then we stumbled into it—the place that makes your heart beat a little faster than it was already beating:  BALBOA ISLAND.

Let’s just take a quick little tour, and tell me what you think:

DSCN0955 This picture is just to “set the scene.”  You can see the houses lined up across from this little beach…

It gets better…

Remember the view above?  Yes, that’s what these residents see, day in, and day out.

DSCN0961

Another lovely.  I really liked the taupe and white combination.

DSCN0976

Aren’t these the coolest version of Adirondacks?  The black might get a tiny bit warm in the California sun, but aren’t they lovely in contrast with the hot pink flowers?

DSCN0963 And what about this row of white houses with flags?  And the bougainvillea?  I do believe flowers love the sea air.

DSCN0965 And how about those porch lights?  Are they not perfect?  And the small flags at the very top (is that what they call a widow’s watch, or widow’s peak?)

DSCN0958 This one…THIS ONE, with the precious front yard.  I fell asleep that night imagining the table I would set out there…

…it was a long table with a long, flowing white table cloth, sterling candelabras with crystal bobeches (because of course there would be a gentle breeze), and perhaps candle shades…  Can you picture it?

(But if I lived here, I think I would ask the community leaders to please move the trash bin, wouldn’t you?)

Now that you’ve seen just a small sample of these charming homes in this charming community, I’m sure you understand why I fell in love.  Have you ever stumbled upon something or someplace that you know you were meant to see?

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I read every single one of them! And if you like what you see a lot, maybe you’d like to +1 this post or pin it on Pinterest too! Thank you!

I invite you to follow me. If you’ll let me know that you’re following, I’ll be sure to follow you back.

  4. OK...so I'm sittin' around the house, shoulders hurting, feeling sorry for myself. IYour blog post pops up on my email and I peruse it. Then I go back and look again...and again...and once again. I am now suddenly feeling a little bit better and wanting to clean, clean, clean my house! Man, Zuni...these houses are magnificent!!! I would LOVE to live there with all those gorgeous homes lined up like that on the beach! I'm not much of a water person, but it just looks so beautiful! I LOVE the house with the flags!!! That would be EXACTLY where I would want to live! Those Adirondacks are fabulous, too!!! I think if they were facing north or east to just catch the morning sun they would be just fine for me. As for the trash receptacle, I would want it handy so that people would (hopefully!) dispose of their trash in it and NOT in my yard. Maybe the city could put a 3-sided decorative picket fence around it with flowers so that it more easily fit in but was still handy. Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining. We live in a very nice neighborhood with lovely homes and great neighbors. But THIS...THIS is FABULOUS!!! If I could move all of my neighbors with me (except maybe 1! :0)), I would be packed & ready to go in no time!!! This really has me pumped now. I'm ready to go clean and get my house looking pretty! Have a good weekend!!!

  6. Zuni....How lucky to be able to stay at the Del! Wow! That is some place! Staying there is on the bucket list of my girlfriend. Her brother lives in Laguna Beach and she goes out there once a year. When we drove north of San Diego we went up PCH and went through all the little towns, Encinitas, Oceanside and they were beautiful too and such great views of mountains on one side and the ocean on the other! Gorgeous! On our way back we stopped in San Juan Capistrano and went to the mission there. I think I might do a post on that...I have lots of pics of the gardens and mission. Hope all is well with you....say hello to my brother and Debi!~Hugs, Patti

  7. hi Zuni, This looks like a charming little place! Regarding the baskets, I can't tell where you are located, but if you ever see a Tractor Supply or perhaps a feed store type of place they might have the bushel baskets... good luck!
    best,
