So when I step into fall I’m always surprised that it’s a pleasure…I actually enjoy it!
I started with the front porch. Welcome to our home!
I have “a thing” about our flag. The way we have it on the house allows me to see it from inside, and never do I fail to notice it and its beauty.
I love shadow play—see the light post on the steps? And the flag, flying high on a beautiful, breezy fall day?
We’ve had these “jacks” for years and years, and I believe we’ve used them every single fall since…I really like them. I decided to use them on the front porch instead of the screened porch, so the baby grands can see them when they come over. The jacks have orange lights in them, so they’re on a timer to come on at dusk. The plaid throw and the gold and orange one on the swing are actually shawls of mine that seemed to fit the vignettes this year.
Recently we stumbled into a fun, neat shop off the beaten path—Back Roads (www.shopbackroads.com), and we promised ourselves that when I transitioned into fall, it would be there that we would buy our mums. Aren’t these gorgeous? That’s only TWO plants in this big, old A&P bin. And the price was fabulous. Happy to deal with a small business instead of the big boxes too.
Later, when the sun is long gone and the “jacks” are lit, the baby grands and I will surely need the extra blankets to bundle up on the swing at bedtime as we do all summer long. We’ll stretch the swing season as much as possible.
I would say fall {finally} arrived at our house, wouldn’t you? And there’s more…several vignettes inside, and the screened porch. I hope to have those in a post SOON!
How quickly do you adapt to fall? What signals fall for you that gets you in the fall decorating mood?
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I love to read every single one of them! How original those jack-o-lanterns are. Really cute. I do have a pumpkin decorating challenge on my blog right now. Please join in if you would like.
ReplyDeleteI think we must be soul sisters. I always have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into Fall. Once there, I usually enjoy it, but only while there are bright leaves on the trees. After that, it's November, and way too gray for me. Love your porch and your flowers and the scarf on the pillow. I am a follower already. Enjoy Fall!
ReplyDeleteHey, Zuni! Is that a real bug on that green watering can, or is it real? I love it when it's hard to tell! I had a hard time leaving summer behind this year only because I didn't feel like we had a "real" summer. It was so hot and oppressive. It was more like being in prison than anything! For that reason I am welcoming fall this year with open arms. I love fall anyway. The colors are beautiful, the patterns of plaids and paisleys are fun, and the smells and feeling in the air are incomparable. You have done a beautiful job of getting into the season!!! Like you, we have our flag flying in such a way that it can be seen from inside. I love that!!! The only time it freaks me out is when there's a storm and the winds make it go crazy! There have been a few times when I have walked past the window at night and mistaken it for a person, too. Just about fainted! I love your front porch and how there's enough room for seating out there, especially the swing. I wish we had space for one. All we have is what I refer to as a "stoop." Not much room for anything but a couple of big planters on the edges. Oh, well! :-) Enjoy your weekend and the cooler temps!
ReplyDeleteThe front porch is so festive! I haven't even started decorating yet...so I'm trolling for ideas! My flag is seen from my window where the computer sits. Mine looked faded as I looked from mine to yours but it's the salt air....! Were neighbors on Tuesday's Treasures...so glad I stopped in!
ReplyDeleteYour front porch is so inviting! Love the Jacks. They are so cute and happy. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the visit and sweet comment on my banister at The Dedicated House. It means the world. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/10/make-it-pretty-monday-week-18.html Hope to see you at the bash! What a lovely front porch. I want to curl up on your front porch swing, under one of those warm blankets and just relax. You've set up a beautiful and inviting fall vignette. The mums in the A&P tub are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, caray! I love your front porch dear Zuni and it was so great to hear from you, lovely friend. I love all the fall pink in those throws you have, so cozily there! Great Jacks, so cheery and inviting. While the weather is fine, I'm sure you enjoy your lovely porch and looking at your flaming flag...and your moms, well, so pretty, honey. Thanks for your sweet visit and I am so excited with my new fridge too. Hope your mother and all your family are well. Big hugs,

Hi Zuni, I love your cozy Fall porch. I too love to see our flag blowing in the breeze. So thankful to live in this wonderful country. I love summer, but as soon as Sept. 1st comes along I can't wait to pull out the Fall. I start early because on Oct. 1st I change it all to Halloween. Even though Spring is my favorite season I adore the changing of the leaves. Your mums are gorgeous and I love your cozy throws. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup. So happy to see you link up again!

My goodness, you've been busy! Your porch looks great and very welcoming. My Fall has unexpectedly had me on the road much more than at home, and my porch is still not festive. Thanks for giving me this visual treat!
