Last weekend the fall “bug” finally got me, and the front porch (HERE) and screened porch got their decorations. While still under the influence of a bright, beautiful fall day, with perfectly blue skies I just kept on going and even did the inside of the house. Do you ever get on a roll decorating and really need to curb your enthusiasm, lest the house start to look like a shop instead of a home? There’s always that danger possibility around our place!
I LOVE to make seasonal changes in the china cabinet—that’s my “toy box,” where I get to shift things around so I can see and enjoy the things I love. (You can see other china cabinet posts by doing a SEARCH of my blog.)
With the high ceilings in our home, it’s especially fun to also do the top of the china cabinet. I love bittersweet, and when my husband and I went to Back Roads to purchase our mums, (HERE), Lisa also had bittersweet bundles. They’re so hard to find around here that I immediately grabbed a couple of them. I sure am enjoying their unstructured growing habits!
Not too patiently, I’ve been waiting to use these Rouen antique dessert plates I bought at auction this summer. According to an eBay listing, these plates were made by Villeroy & Boch Mettlach between 1850 & 1899! When I bought them I had no idea!! I just knew I liked the rich colors, the “wavy” red rim, and of course the colorful birds. I also liked the combination of blue and rust. I CANNOT wait to set a table with them—Thanksgiving perhaps??
The Powell & Bishop Tea Leaf pieces, with their “copper” design, fit right in with the fall colors. Exotic feathers complement the feel of the bird dishes.
The big pumpkin was a “gift” from Sweet Baby Love…she picked it right up from her yard decorations and gave it to us to bring home. Obviously, it needed to have a prominent place in the fall decor.
Speaking of Sweet Baby Love…she’ll be five in a few weeks, and she is just enthralled by the colors of fall this year. She gathered these leaves one day when I picked her up from preschool.
The picture of Sweet Baby G with a pumpkin was a first last year. I stored it with the fall decorations to use it as fall decor. The terracotta pot was a gift from years ago that I love so much that I use it year after year in the fall.
And on to a bit more indoor decorating…
My huge tole tray (see HERE for a full view of it) was pressed into fall service as the base for this quick vignette on the entertainment center.
The fall soup tureen was a gift from my mother years ago…Love it. I hope to fill it with some yummy soup for a family dinner soon.
And the centerpiece on our dining room table…
The starting point of this vignette was the gorgeous hydrangeas that my SIL gave me. She was busy and sadly cleaning out her dad’s home after his passing when I went to visit her, and his hydrangeas were just beautiful. As a memento of the kind and loving and genuine gentleman that he was I asked her if I could have a few of them. The rest, including the brass candlesticks I haven’t used for quite some time, just fell into place.
And the last touch of fall inside…
You’ve seen these in many posts, because they’re so versatile!
Perhaps next week I’ll be able to post the pictures of the screened porch.
So don’t forget to answer my question at the beginning of this post: Do you find that you have to curb your enthusiasm when you’re decorating, or do you fly free and put as much as you want out? I can’t wait to hear back!
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I read every single one of them! And if you like what you see a lot, maybe you’d like to +1 this post or pin it on Pinterest too! Thank you!
I invite you to follow me. If you’ll let me know that you’re following, I’ll be sure to follow you back.

Oh, my! What lovely Falleness at your house. You've really decked our your china cabinet beautifully. Love those VB dessert plaves. Your other vignettes are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see me and have a great weekend.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia;)
You have really been workin' it!!! It's easy to get on a roll once the bug bites, though. Ramon says our home looks more like a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 store than a house on the inside!!! I almost always have at least one tablescape in the making, so there is always something "on display." I can't help it! I love the feathers added to your china cabinet vignette to complement the fabulous china you bought at auction. What a great idea! The bittersweet on top of the cabinet looks so cool!!! I haven't bought any fresh this year, but I do love it. So sweet for you to have kept some of the hydrangeas in memory of your sister-in-law's dad. That's really nice. Now that you have decorated indoors and out, I hop you are able to kick back this weekend and enjoy the fruits of your labor! Take care!
ReplyDeleteYou're miles ahead of me with the Autumn decorating. I don't think that I'm ready to embrace with all that orange, yet...flirt with it...maybe. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteOh wow, such full Autumness decorating, your house looks amazing! I love your mom's fall tureen she gifted you. I adore your china cabinet and all in it..of course with the gorgeous china you bought too! I always wanted to dry hydrangeas and yours are lovely..so sweet you saved them from your sil's father's wake. I've done here and there and a couple of tables so far, but currently we've been for 10 days at our daughter Sofia's house visiting for hollidays, so I reposted the table you just saw, from 2011. When I'm back on Monday I'll prepare for a fall Cloche Party Marty at, Stroll Thru Life is hosting Tuesday....hope I see you there too!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,

Hi Zuni,
ReplyDeleteSeems so long since I've been over to see you. Haven't been blogging much these days. I would like to change that, but life gets in the way with things that always seem more important.
Love your new plates. They are so elegant and look lovely on your hutch. Really like the bittersweet on the top of the hutch - I noticed it right away. You were right to snatch it up as it is hard to find, even for sale. Nothing says fall to me like bittersweet.
Cindy
Love your decorating. Oh we must fly free! That's when the best inspiration happens.
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
I have always put out what I wanted, decorating more for some seasons than others. Now that I've scaled back into a tiny cottage I find I don't put out as many items. I like simplicity these days! I do enjoy everyone's decorations though, especially my moms! You decorate beautifully and I'm a dish freak so I love seeing your dishes in the hutch!
ReplyDeleteEverything is just beautiful! I love your soup tureen, caught my eye right off the bat.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know that others are just now putting out their Fall decor. I took the bins out of the attic today and will attempt to put them out over the next few days. Your decorations and vignettes are very beautiful. I love that china! I came over from your comment left on my benches post and am following you back.

I seem to drag everything I own, and then go shopping for more! Thank you for sharing. I love all your fall decor.
ReplyDeleteZuni,
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for stopping by and joining me for Home Sweet Home! I love the arrangement you have on the top with the bittersweet. You are lucky to have those high ceilings! So pretty! I followed and it said I was already following. I have a button that is a pink rose. I follow a lot of new people each week when I go through the party but, it can sometimes be random. LOL Sometimes I think it is like that old saying , "You need to hear something 9 times to remember it." I hope it doesn't take 9 visits to get me to follow anyone, but I can't be so sure! LOL
Sherry
LOvely. Inspiration is what brings many of us to blogs, and yours is wonderful. thanks

ReplyDeleteAll of your decor is stunning Zuni, I especially love the way you display your china cabinet and putting the hydrangeas in an apothecary jar, how creative and beautiful. Gorgeous centerpiece for the DR. Thanks so much for joining the party. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYour china cabinet is gorgeous and I love all of your decor. Thanks for joining in at my Fall into Fall party. I am now following you back.
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautifully appointed for Fall. I'm so glad you emailed me. I think we often think that we are following someone, when in fact we're not. That issue has been resolved!

Zuni, your home is so lovely all dressed in her Fall colors. Great touches tucked into every corner. Sometimes I do feel that my home looks a bit like a store. I use to own a business with a friend and I don't think it had much more than my home. I just always think I have to use every little decorative thing that I own. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely decor with Share Your Cup.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Love changing out in my china cabinet too! Love your fall dishes. The tabletop decor is lovely - especially the centerpiece. I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

Hi Zuni! Beautiful Fall decorating! Love your china cabinet decor~ so pretty!! Thank in advance for linking up at Feathered Nest Friday!
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are beautiful, Zuni! Sometimes I can't put out what I want to because of lack of room here. In my old house, I knew I could always find someplace to put something, but here I don't have that option.
ReplyDeleteI love your fall decor and those dishes are just beautiful. Thanks for linking up at Throwback Thursdays.
