On a Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago we woke up to [more] rain, but it was a hard-enough-to-hear rain that makes you want to stay in bed all day and just listen to it. I admit it…I did do a little bit of that, but then I was anxious to get out to the front porch to enjoy it in a different way.
One of the good things in life is having a front porch—with a swing—and sitting on that swing, warm cup of coffee in hand, listening to the rain and watching as the drops hit the ground and make their own little splashes.
Listen….do you hear it?! Do you hear the quiet??
Yes, siree! It was some awesome sort of summer rain! No thunder, no lightning, just sweet, sweet rain.
My wellies, jacket, and umbrella at the ready, in case I decide to venture out for a walk. Do you have rain boots? If you do, what do you like about them? Do you wear them often? I love mine! In fact, I find them kind of freeing—I can walk anywhere, through anything, without getting my feet or pants wet or the back of my pants splashed!
One of my favorite mugs—from Starbucks—was perfect for my morning on the porch.
And as I enjoyed the rain, I enjoyed our porch, taking the time to enjoy the little “vignettes” that are often overlooked.
This old crate that I’ve had for so long and use so often. Not a clue where/when I got it, but it sure has been enjoyed!
I’ve already mentioned this geranium this year—it’s been absolutely beautiful! It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the red is a black red; the flowers look almost like velvet. The wicker table? A fabulous auction find!
And the “painted” geranium—see how it looks like each petal has brushstrokes? Another favorite this year that I’ve mentioned before. I’m going to try to keep them over the winter in the garage. We’re in Ohio—any advice on how to do that? I would love, love, love to have these again next year.
P.S. After this sweet reprieve on our porch my husband and I ventured out in the rain—yes, I in my wellies—to a nearby town that has wonderful antique shops. Before wellies I may not have been too interested in that, but have wellies, will go out!
Are you a rain lover? Do you venture out in it? And if you own rain boots do you love them and wonder why you didn’t buy them longer ago like I do?!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I read every single one of them! And if you like what you see a lot, maybe you’d like to Google+ this post or pin it on Pinterest too! Thank you!
I invite you to follow me. If you’ll let me know that you’re following, I’ll be sure to follow you back.

I love a porch swing, Zuni. I'll bet it was a nice way to get your morning going sitting on it and sipping at your coffee.
ReplyDeleteI do love rain (storms, even!) and I love to enjoy it on my screened-in porch swing. I knew we were sisters in spirit!! I do not have rain boots, but yours are darling. I wear a very small shoe and would have to get some in a children's size, which do not fit correctly for any boots for me. Love this post and, especially, all of your red flowers!
ReplyDeleteI used to love swinging myself with my little daughters in our past home, specially in lovely weather and if not, I still enjoyed rain in the inside porch, as rain gives me a sense of security, like there's water, as I don't think I can live in the deserts, or deserted lands in Africa! Now I still swing in my daughter Sofia's house with the grands, lol.. Lovely vignette with the red flowers and I love the boots and umbrella, so cute to walk on the rain..or dance, too! Have a wonderful week amiguita linda.

I love love LOVE summer rain! I can relate and agree with all that you say Zuni ;D
ReplyDeleteStaying in bed listening to it dancing on the roof...the smell as it soaks into the ground...beautiful water droplets decorating the blooms...oh I could go on and on...
Now here's the thing...I've got to buy a new pair of wellies now that I'm back in the UK. I think your's are fantastic and so chic! I could also do with some for my pup as we normally go walking together. Trouble is she's only a mini Shih Tzu and so slung low to the ground...unfortunately her tummy gets soaked too.
Your porch and plants are so beautiful. I can understand why you would want to sit and appreciate it.
((♥)) Hugs
We like to sit out on the covered porch during the rain too.
ReplyDeleteNope, no wellies, not a boot person. Hate to have to wear boots in winter too.
It was a beautiful summer day here. Mass, then papers and breakfast on the porch.
Hope you had a good one too!
Oh how I love the sound of a good rain. We had an evening of lightening and thunder without much rain the other night, for what seemed like hours! Not much rain came with it though. Oh well, we will get plenty of that in a couple of months here in Washington. Love you porch swing! Blessings to you, Patti
ReplyDeleteI love a spring and summer rain. My grandmother had a tin roof and I loved the sound of rain on the roof. We have a large covered porch with a swing, four rockers and two overhead fans. I have coffee out there every morning. Bob gets up earlier than me so he has finished his coffee but he has checked out the neighborhood. He can tell you who turns right or left out of their drive. No kidding!
ReplyDeleteI love your matching boots and umbrella. I keep an umbrella in the car at all times and I do have rubber boots, yellow and orange flowers. I don't use them for rain but in the garden.
Love your porch. I am no help on geraniums, I can never grow them.
Have a great week, Ginger
Hi Zuni! Normally I would love to sit on the porch and listen to the rain but we have been under flood advisories with our wet summer, I've lost my appreciation for it! Love your wellies, I've traded my flip flops for them this summer :) Beautiful mosaic and I love your old crate and geranium!
ReplyDeleteThose last two geraniums intrigue me. I just have red and white, that color would round out my garden!

Zuni, You have a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the rain. I don't have wellies but I could have used some the last few weeks with all the rain we have had. Thanks for linking to the Open House party.

It is so nice to enjoy the rain - especially on a covered porch! The one thing I wish our house had! Love your boots and jacket - lovely - your porch is lovely and I especially like the Geranium! I am so delighted that you shared with Home and Garden Thursday,
