Don’t you wish the switch from Thanksgiving to Christmas were as easy as from Halloween to Thanksgiving? Since the color scheme can remain the same from Halloween to Thanksgiving, the transition can be quick…and I LIKE quick! Not too much to take down or bring up from the basement…put the Jack-o’-lanterns and such away, leave the pumpkins and corn and pomegranates, add a few other touches, and voilà! WE’RE READY FOR THANKSGIVING!
For our Halloween decor (really, isn’t “decor” a little highfalutin to describe Halloween?? :) ) you might remember that our buffet held terracotta Jack-o’-lanterns and black kittens hidden inside (here). Now it has a more sophisticated look:
I’ve had this cornucopia for many years, and I’ve used it many, many times. What speaks more to the bounty of Thanksgiving than a cornucopia spilling over with vegetables and flowers? To add more interest, I set it on a Wilton Armetale oval platter.
The sterling pedestal compote and its contents…tiny pumpkins and gourds, and of course BUCKEYES…remained from the Halloween vignette…
…as did the pumpkin surrounded by a bit of grapevine.
I absolutely CANNOT WAIT until some sort of BLUETOOTH technology makes all lamps cord-free, how about you? Cords ruin every picture! I’ve noticed that in most magazines the lamps don’t have cords…I too, started to “erase” this one, but it’s time consuming, so no magazine shot here! I’ve seem the fabric covers like the ones for chandeliers, but that doesn’t seem like a solution to me—it just draws even more attention to the cord! So, I’m hoping for Bluetooth :)—SOON!!
The writing desk remained pretty much the same…I added the books and bowls (a new GW find!), and the pumpkins that had been on the table on the front porch came inside. They’ve held up incredibly well!
And the china cabinet got its full Thanksgiving look. I’d held on to the blue and white for quite a while this year, but I was actually ready…no, anxious, actually, to move to the brown transferware turkey plates.
I have never done a brown and white china cabinet display before, but something this year seemed to call for that, I think to call attention to the great Royal Stafford turkey plates I bought at Home Goods several years ago.
The turkey plates are smaller than luncheon plates…more of a dessert or salad plate, and the dinner plate behind it is another great Home Goods find. I originally thought I would set our immediate family’s Thanksgiving table (we’ll do it on the Sunday after Thanksgiving this year) with this arrangement, but that may not go over so well. See the beautiful raised border on those plates? Well, it takes up a lot of room that would otherwise be used for FOOD, so I may have a few complaints about that :). Actually, as I think about it, that might be a GOOD THING!
More turkeys—the Friendly Village turkey luncheon plates. (I just found that Johnson Brothers’ Friendly Village also has a PUMPKIN luncheon plate!! I thought I needed about 8 of them, but the Buy it now price on eBay is $39.99 for ONE! Yikes!)
I’ve researched these knives and have been able to find absolutely nothing on them (don’t remember the mark on them now), but I love them. I bought them at a community garage sale years ago; I’m pretty sure they’re pretty old. The color is lovely for fall tables—it’s more yellow than they appear in the picture. Don’t you love that little brad in the handle?
~~~~~~~
I love to see all your pictures. Sometimes I wish I could crawl right into my computer screen and see THE DETAILS, so here are a few shots for those readers who share my passion for the details.
These goblets are now vintage, from the early days of Pottery Barn. Sadly, I broke one and haven’t been able to find a replacement. Is there someone out there who knows where I can find one, or TWO, or FOUR??
Here’s a full view of our Thanksgiving china cabinet~
And last but not least…our FLAG. Those of you who’ve been following me on this fun ride of home and hearth know how much I love to see our flag, swaying softly or briskly at our front porch. One day, as I looked out onto the screened porch I caught this reflection of the flag on our sliding-glass door. Couldn’t have planned it if I’d wanted to:
From my nest to yours~
Zuni
Hi Zuni - so nice to catch up with you! Thanks for coming by. So many things I agree with you on from this post. Let's see if I can remember them all. First of all - love your cornucopia!!! Truly the prettiest one I've ever seen. Also love your turkey brown transferware plates. They are lovely and so perfect. Your hutch looks grand all dressed up in it's browns and whites. Makes the perfect combination for this dreary time of year when we're missing our leaves. I knew I'd forget something I read in your post, so lets just say I loved it all. Love your nod to the buckeyes - Go Bucks!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Your changes are gorgeous! I too find the change from Halloween to Thanksgiving easy. Just remove the scary and add the turkey!! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous home with us at TTF!
ReplyDeleteZuni - your "nest" looks wonderful all spruced up for Thanksgiving! I love the brown and white pieces in your cupboard (brown is my favorite color!!). All the little details are so special - you have done such a wonderful job of making your home look so welcoming!!
ReplyDeleteYour home looks all ready for Thanksgiving! Love how you've incoprated the different spaces in your home into the decor.
ReplyDeleteBluetooth technology to rid us all of those pesky electrical cords??!?! Honey, get your hips in a laboratory right now and then sign up for "Shark Tank"!!!!!!!! That would make SO many people happy...especially me!!! I hate having to work so hard to hide cords!!!!! Get to inventin'!!!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWow...your spaces look really serene and inviting for the holiday season. Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away, and you are well on your way to being ready! As for me...no Thanksgiving at our house this year. I need to rest my body still. But next year, LOOK OUT!!!! :-)
It's so good to hear from you, Alycia! You should continue to let your family spoil you. As much as we miss you, keep resting that arm!!!
DeleteHow nice to see you around here my sweet friend Alycia! Thinking about you all the time and wishing for you to get totally in ship-shape...but in the meantime, take full care!
DeleteBig hugs,
FABBY
Zuni - there are so many gorgeous images in this post that it's hard to zero in on any one in particular. I suppose if I have to pick a favorite, I love your desk with the blue and orange. But truly, everything is just beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear and guapa Zuni! Your house looks amazing for Fall, each and every photo is gorgeous and of course all your dishes and elements...swoonnnn.... Ok, your hutch is lovely with all the gorgeous Johnson Bro. turkey dihses, how expensive they are now! Your vignette with those lovely lamps and great cornucopia is one of my fav decor here. Amazing shot with the flad, and it's like one of those that even you did it on purpose, it'll never turn up as fabulous!
ReplyDeletePS: Yep, you said it right...I too wish someone invented a way not to see wires, they just ruin any decorating pics!
Thanks for your sweet visit, I love it when you do!
Have a lovely week ahead.
FABBY
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with so many of your points! I dislike cords too and yes, I definitely agree with you about the transition between Halloween and turkey day.
ReplyDeleteI love your hutch, and the brown and cream plates are so classic and perfect for the holiday.
You have a lovely home and you're quite talented!
