Do you hear the roar? It’s Ohioans cheering, not for the OSU State Buckeyes, but for SUN and WARMER WEATHER! The thermometer actually inched into the 50s today, plus the sun was shining beautifully, so a GREAT day in these parts!
And last week we also had a milder day or two, so…could it be?! Could SPRING be inching nearer and nearer?
So last week I started to feel a little bolder about the possibility of spring. Now, I didn’t want to go too crazy—I’m not ready for spring flowers and spring wreaths on the door, but I thought a little change around the house might be, ummmmm, acceptable? You see, if I go too crazy into spring and then we get the usual snow of March {and April even!}, well, that really strips my gears. And gear-stripping isn’t good for me. When it’s spring inside I need it to be authentic and match the outdoors.
So I started with the china cabinet. Those of you who visit often know that the china cabinet tends to set the tone around our home. As the china cabinet goes, so does the weather AND the outlook. :)
You might remember that after de-Christmasing the china cabinet I left the Boehm Chickadees and Holly china in the cabinet, and for the most part simply rearranged it to this:
And I enjoyed it a lot. I found that the red was a good transition for me, as was the white, and I got to enjoy my chickadees a little bit longer.
Right now I’ve got a tablescape formulating in my head, and it involves these Limoges dinner plates: I love it when I’ve got ideas dancing around in my head, :) –it leads to a lot of daydreaming and scheming and planning—and I love the opportunity to use these dishes again. You can see how I’ve used them in the past HERE and HERE. So I thought that for further inspiration, I’d have them where I could see them and enjoy them until the table is “born.”
These dishes are really so versatile. In the past I’ve used them for a Thanksgiving table and for a Valentine’s table. And now they’re in use for a move toward spring.
To keep the cabinet design from going too springy I left the red goblets and added other intense colors that reflect the colors in the china pattern.
The Details~
I had to wait several days to take the pictures, because the days were pretty dark there for a while. Then, as I’m cooking dinner several days later, I glance over to the china cabinet and the sun’s kiss on the jewel tones amazed me. Dinner on hold! I HAVE to capture this magic moment!
My sweet grandmother and I loved violets—African and common ones—and pansies, and she gave me this sweet little flower pot {with the silk violets in the teal vase in another spot in the china cabinet} years and years and years ago. It’s nothing fancy or expensive, but I wouldn’t part with it for the world. Of all the pretties in the china cabinet, this one is my favorite.
The Serving Shelf~
I put this stone-and-moss terrarium together several years ago, and it seems to fit in so many areas of our home!
The silver cordials and the silver goblets are a recent acquisition from an estate sale.
The hydrangeas I harvested last fall have held up beautifully.
Now I’m ready to eeeeaaaasssseeee into spring! Nothing radical or crazy here! I simply transitioned from this:
to THIS:
What do you think? Did I transition you softly enough, from winter? Does my needing to ease into a new season make sense to you, or are you able to jump right in in anticipation?

Your china cabinet really looks so good. Love the red glasses and dishes. So glad that you are getting warmer days. Of course here in So CA we really have not had a cold winter at all. I am kind of embarrassed when I see the weather you have been having and we are in the 80's.
ReplyDeleteHere's to Spring arriving at your house - have a warm weekend.
Mary
I did the same last week and 'spring'd up' my home. I added throws, tulips, daffodils and anything bright and cheery. It's amazing what a little bit of 'springing' does to the mind and soul. Today I am sitting in the garden catching up on blogs with the sun out - not beating down, but warm enough to sit and listen to bees once again! Yes, spring is springing and your china cabinet reflects this so beautifully. Have a wonderful weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteZuni, perfect transition. I love the china and the red glob lets are perfect. I have some dried hydrangeas from several years back that I still use. I haven't put any touches of spring out yet, but with the temps in the mid 60's today, I am ready! Diannd
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'm trying to pull out some Easter things and add a touch of spring here too. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHermoso china cabinet Zuni! I specially like all your lovelies inside it, like the red goblets and that adorable chicken wire cloche, (wish I could find one!)
ReplyDeleteI love it that you could start your transition to spring in such a lovely maner, plus you are getting lovely pretty weather to feel like it too! I'm sure you girls from the north of the Americas are embracing spring soon. Have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead dear Zuni. Thank you for popping in to see me, it's always great having you!
Abrazos fuertes amiguita,
FABBY
I love, love., love your Limoges dinner plates!

ReplyDeleteOOPs! Big typos.
ReplyDeleteZuni, Everything looks lovely. I love the terrarium and the pops of red are so pretty in the sunshine. I think spring is here in the south. We are busy preparing for St Patrick's Day celebration and parade. The azaleas should be in full bloom by then.
Thanks for the inspiration. I may just have to brighten things up around here.
Have a blessed weekend, Ginger
Oh, Zuni, congratulations on your gorgeous day! You've certainly been waiting long enough for it. I can see why you want to use your gorgeous Limoges plates in a Springtime tablescape. They will be gorgeous! Can't wait to see how you take the dream images in your head and turn them into reality.
ReplyDeleteZuni - I'm in love with this china! I went back and looked at the other two posts where you featured them, and they are as versatile as you say, and so beautiful! I liked how you brought out more purple to your cabinet. I've always associated purple with Lent. Remember how all religious images used to be covered with purple cloth during Lent? The Church has cut back on that but I still associate the color with the anticipation of Spring and Easter Sunday! I used to save dried blooms like your hydrangeas and roses, until my oldest son got into Feng Shui. They really bothered him because he said it was living with dead things and did not bring good chi into the house, so I got rid of them all, including all potpourri. Now I use infusers with essential oils only. The things we do for our kids! I'm glad the weather is. Warming up by you. Here in Chicago is warming up as well, although we've barely broken 40, but I'll take it! Take care!
ReplyDeleteLittle changes mean a lot...I think this looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing how you decorate your china cabinet! I love how you're easing into spring, too. We've been having nice 70+ degree days lately and tonight, more snow is forecasted. Bummer!! Your idea helps keep us on an even keel! Those Limoges dishes are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI love the new touches, Zuni, and what could be better than a few spring pieces to cheer us up? I keep thinking Spring is here in Georgia, but we will have temps in the 30s at night later in the week. Enough, already!!! Sorry, but we just are not used to this in the south!!
ReplyDeleteYou are transitioning just beautifully, Zuni! I think all of us are so glad that we're seeing a bit more springlike weather! What a brutal winter, huh? We had a fabulous day here yesterday...but of course, Michigan being Michigan, we're supposed to get 3-6" of snow tomorrow! UGH! But just looking at your pretty springy china cabinet truly lifted my spirits today! Have a beautiful week, girlie!

I love your china cabinet and all the lovely things you have stored upon it. I love how you used your red...just pops! Speaking of weather...yesterday in Florida it was a Beach day....today is wrap up day! Only in Florida! LOL! Have a great afternoon and looking forward to more goodies on your sweet china cabinet! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI LOVE china! Yours is gorgeous, love how you've decorated your home.

So nice to have you visit me! and thank you for your sweet comments.
ReplyDeleteI love your china and silver goblets! Just beautiful.
A girl after my own heart!
I LOVE vintage china and have been collecting for years. Always gravitating towards rose motifs.
I started collecting vintage silver a few years ago. I love mixing the silver pieces with the vintage china.
I found a set of silver goblets at the thrift store last summer. Still in the box.
You've inspired me to get them out and use them in my decor.
Your newest follower.
Blessings,
Elizabeth
Beautiful change to the china cabinet. Love the colors you combined! Thanks for sharing at TTF!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to ease into the season, Zuni! I love all the little touches that whisper Spring! I'm "easing" into it, too. It's hard to go full on Spring when the threat of snowflakes still looms! I have a nice generic wreath on the front door with our monogram wired into it, so no worries there. It's the pots on the front porch that I fret over. Should I add pansies? Shouldn't I? It's maddening!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the shape of that coffee pot!!! Or is that a tea pot? Either way, the shape is beguiling!!!! Looks like a sexy woman with her hand on her hip! :-)
Thanks for the Spring inspiration! Have a great week!
Love the Spring change to your China Cabinet! I'll be featuring you this week at Simple & Sweet Fridays. Thanks so much for sharing! Thanks for the inspiration!
