Every ballerina, regardless of her age, needs flowers…LOTS OF FLOWERS…after her performance, and our little ballerina has learned that yes, she will receive flowers, LOTS OF FLOWERS.
Last year her grandpapá and I gave her a silver tussie-mussie with a soft pink rose and baby’s breath ~
pictured here in her Papá’s (our son’s) silver baby cup, along with a Teddy Bear.
I’ve had the tussie-mussie for many years, and have used it and its companion on our Christmas trees. Her dance recital seemed like the perfect occasion to pass one of them on to her.
This year, after seeing Carol’s, from The Polka Dot Closet, tutorial on fabric flowers (here) I just KNEW what this year’s tussie-mussie would be. (Thank you, Carol, for all the help and inspiration you so generously share with us!). And it was so much fun to make!
My idea was to make the tussie-mussie, and fill it with the handmade flowers…
…they would certainly hold up better than fresh ones, and since this grandmamá loves to save mementos, it would be ideal for either a shadow box or another display in her room at our house.
Totally stealing the Nutty Butter ballet-slipper cookie idea from Pinterest (too many sites to list), her gift seemed complete,
…and personalized. BL for Baby Love.
The flowers turned out beautifully, but I forgot to tell you that our ballerina is a PRIMA DONNA BALLERINA (well, in our hearts at least…), and in the days leading up to the recital she talked about receiving flowers, and I sensed that not-real flowers, even when handmade with so much love, may not yet fill the bill. Maybe when she’s older and can appreciate such things…
No worries. I “readjusted” the tussie-mussie to allow for baby pink carnations with small flower vials to fit, yet surrounded by the handmade ones.
Oh, and her little brother was also in the recital… He too, needed some accolades, but…what do we give a boy for a recital?
We gave him a trophy (which he quite liked!), his own, black ballet-slipper cookies, and a balloon.
Tussie-mussie, ballet-slipper cookies, a trophy, and balloons…we were so proud of our little dancers.
Happily, they loved {ALL} their gifts.
I’ve been away for quite a while! I’ve missed so many of you, your own posts, your comments and connections back to me. Lots of family activities have kept us happily busy, but I can’t wait to hear what things you’ve done for your recitals. After all, we’ll have another one coming before we know it (and a piano recital too!), so I must start thinking and planning NOW!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ll leave me a comment to let me know you were here—I read every single one of them! And if you like what you see a lot, maybe you’d like to Google+ this post or pin it on Pinterest too! Thank you!
I invite you to follow me. If you’ll let me know that you’re following, I’ll be sure to follow you back.

ReplyDeleteHappy fourth
Mary
How pretty! Those cookies look fabulous too.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week xox
Hi, Zuni! We've both been absent for awhile I see! Glad you are back! I love what you've come back with, too! The little ballet slippers are cute as they can be!!! I'm glad that you thought to reward the little boy with the same (yet different) cookie treats! Boys, especially at that young age, enjoy getting special made-by-Grandmama's-loving-hands kind of recognition for their efforts, too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea to create an everlasting bouquet for your granddaughter. She may not get it now, but she will have something to look back on years from now that will mean a great deal to her. The tussie is really pretty, and a shadow box would be a perfect home for it! You're just full of good ideas!!!
Congratulations to both little ones on their accomplishments! Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
OK..I called you with my thoughts, dear Zuni..I too have been thinking of paying you a visit to find out if all was well with you, pretty girl! How happy I am to know you're just fine celebrating your princess with such a beautiful setting, specially with the great tussie-mussie! Little girls are the sweetiest, we just spent time In Orlando with our little girls and it was awesome, such memories we just had! (I have a post with all of us just recently) Those cookies are so sweet and lovely. I hope you all have a terrific time and BBQ for the great USA's Independence Day. Don't stay away too long lovely Zuni.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you,
FABBY
Just beautiful...love the ballet slipper cookies and the ones you made for her little brother...you created so many wonderful things for this special event...I am sure they will treasure what you created for many years to come!..
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! And what a lucky little ballerina! Have a wonderful week! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful and I can see you and I both had pink on our minds!
ReplyDeleteSo delicate and so inspiring!
Happy 4th, Happy Hugs!
Jemma
Following you!!
How cute is that? The pink is so sweet and I love your Tussie Mussie's. A great time was had by all. I am dropping in from Ivy's party. Enjoy Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Zuni, what loving remembrances for the little ballerina. I so wish I had a granddaughter to lavish all those kinds of things on, but we have a grandson, who is beyond lavishing anyway at the age of 18, and I wouldn't trade him for anything, but always wanted to add a girl..Happy 4th of July to you..Happy Wednesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteHow sweet and adorable! I just love these little bouquets. Thank you for joining Home Sweet Home!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Oh, I am already following! Thank you for stopping by! Have a great 4th!
ReplyDeleteSherry
You are the best grandmother, ever! I am admitting defeat - lol!! The tussie-mussie turned out so beautifully - I want to be your granddaughter - hahaha!! I would love to receive it, as a prize. I have been gone, too. June is always one of the busiest times of the year for me. I was so happy to see this post!!
ReplyDeleteZuni, thanks for your email. I actually stopped by to see if you were around and read this sweet post earlier this week, but my Little Sir woke up from his nap, and I didn't have a chance to comment. :-) No recitals (or ball games) in our family yet, but I'm sure they'll be here before I know it! I'll have to check out how to make those pretty faux flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat an eye candy filled post! I don't know where to start! The tussie mussie is a favorite, and those adorable little cookies are over the top. Enjoyed every bit! Have a happy and blessed 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
Zuni, this is a sweet thoughtful gift for your precious ballerina. I love the idea of passing along a tussie mussie to a someone. They are the sweetest little things. Your cookies are also adorable.

ReplyDeleteWow, so sweet :) Thanks for stopping by my lil'blog and taking time to leave a lovely comment :) Winter greetings from Australia♥ ~Pernilla
ReplyDeleteThe home made flowers are beautiful, but yes I think she wanted real flowers for now. The memory value of the others will come in time. The cookies are too cute! Thanks for sharing at TTF.
